Legal highs replace banned substitutes

Internet is the new drug din for abusers in Ireland
New ‘legal highs’ to replace banned substances

New legal drugs freely sold on the internet are entering the Irish market and will replace the drugs which were sold in Head Shops and banned following recent legislation.
A training workshop educating people on the availability of ‘legal highs’ and their potential dangers is being organised by the Learning Curve Institute will take place in Knock House Hotel on November 20. Details from 098 25530.
Recent legislation resulted in the immediate ban on head shops substances but the Institute say that head shops are re-opening and selling substances they claim circumvent this legislation.
They said that more than 400 new legal highs are being sold on the internet which cause the same concerns as the ones recently banned.
The workshop entitled ‘Headshops Substances : A description of the substances and strategies to work with people who use them’ is aimed at upskilling professionals currently working in community, youth and drug work, who want to learn more about the issue, receive training on the effects of the substances and find out what new substances may be coming down the line.
