Silver lining for Castlebar after a long week of loss
28 new jobs a boost after bad week in county town

200 JOBS may be gone in Baxter Castlebar but job prospects in in the county town are not all doom and gloom after it was announced last week that at least 28 new positions would be created.
Ford dealer JJ Griffith Limited of Claremorris has announced that they will operate a new dealership in Castlebar from January 2011, creating 20 jobs, while customer experience solutions company, Kaptec will create another eight jobs after they were awarded the customer service contract by Irish mobile network provider JUST Mobile.
“Ford has a long and proud history in Co Mayo and we are delighted to be re-establishing the Ford presence in Castlebar, an important and thriving town in Mayo,” said Jim Hughes, Managing Director of J.J. Griffith Limited.
Mayor of Castlebar Ger Deere welcomed the development in light of the large job losses in Baxter.
“Any jobs announcement is great for the town and in light of what happened with Baxter I am very happy to hear this and it is from a Mayo business as well making it all the better.
“Casey’s (Castlebar )lost 70 jobs there last year but this will go some way to help the town,” Mayor Deere said. The location for the new dealership will be announced in the coming weeks.
Yesterday (Monday), Castlebar based company Kaptec announced they will create eight new jobs with the number to increase over time in line with the growth of JUST Mobile’s customer base.
Kaptec is 100 per cent Irish owned and run and currently employs 35 people since it was established in 2006. As part of the agreement, Kaptec will provide support, 8am until 8pm, seven days a week to JUST Mobile customers nationwide.
