Cannonball run spectacular is set for Westport this Friday

160 vintage and sports cars worth €50m altogether will be parading around Westport this week on Friday, September 10.
The Cannonball Run 2010 in aid of Barretstown, will parade through the town before heading on to Cork for the final stretch of the journey crossing the finish line.
Some of the world’s most stylish and expensive cars will be on display during the event and it is expected that over €150,000 will be raised for Barretstown to help sick children.
One motor enthusiast who will be parading through Westport paid €17,000 for two months insurance for his €250,000 sports car. The cars will be parked at the Mall, Westport during the day to allow people to inspect the luxury and classical machines.
Some of the world’s most famous cars such as Lamborghini, Ferrarri, Aston Martin, Porches, Rolls Royce and Bentley will be represented at the event.
The cars will approach from the Castlebar road at approximately 6.30pm with the roads being closed to traffic from 6pm to 6.30pm.
I-102104 radio will be broadcasting from Super Valu and TV3 will have camera men there for the duration of the event. Entertainment will be on the streets and fancy dress will be the according to the event organisers.
The Cannonball Ireland convoy consists of three days taking in some of Ireland’s most scenic routes. The rules of the road and speed limits are enforced stringently along the route.
The convoy will be eating and staying at the four star Hotel Westport for the night and will depart in the morning for day two of the cross country journey.People will be coming from all over the world to the event which is expected to put Ireland on the world map in motoring history.
