PLANNING Permissions granted in Mayo fell by almost one fifth since January when compared to the same period in 2009.
Permission for the construction of housing units fell 17 per cent in Mayo last year according to new CSO statistics.
The amount of housing units granted Planning Permission in the first quarter in of this year fell from 147 to 121 well below the national average.
In the first quarter of 2010, planning permissions were granted for 5,510 dwelling units nationwide, compared with 14,177 units for the same period in 2009, a decrease of 61.1 per cent.
In total, 4,519 planning permissions were granted for all developments in the first three months of the year, compared to 7,486 in the first quarter of 2009.
