Green light given for major redevelopment works at north Mayo GAA club

The planning application, submitted by Ballina Stephenites GAA club, was first received and validated in April this year.
Mayo County Council has granted planning permission for a significant redevelopment project at Ballina Stephenites GAA Club in north Mayo.
The club submitted its application in April, seeking permission to demolish existing sheds and develop a range of new and upgraded sporting facilities.
Under the approved plans, the existing football pitch will be reconfigured into two separate pitches, both of which will be equipped with new perimeter netting, floodlighting and dugouts.
The development will also include the construction of a new 133-square-metre storage shed, along with a new all-weather astro turf pitch featuring its own floodlighting and protective netting.
One of the standout elements of the project is the proposed construction of a large hurling wall, which will provide an additional training facility for players.
Further works will include the development of a new internal access road, a car park and dedicated pedestrian routes aimed at improving accessibility throughout the site.
Planning permission was granted subject to eight conditions. These include a requirement for archaeological monitoring of the works, with a report on the findings to be submitted to the planning authority to help ensure the preservation of any archaeological features that may be uncovered.
