The Mayo News has learned that Mayo are set to field a Senior camogie side in 2026, following on from their decision not to enter a side in 2025 competitions.
Last season, The Mayo News reported that Mayo Camogie had withdrawn from National League and Championship competitions, having previously competed in Division Four of the League and the All-Ireland Premier Junior Championship.
At the end of that campaign, manager Colum O'Meara stepped away following heavy defeats, citing concerns with the lack of collective training sessions.
Now, with the start of the National Camogie League just weeks away, Mayo Camogie have confirmed to The Mayo News that they will be throwing their hat in the ring.
The side will compete in Division 3B of the league, alongside Monaghan, Donegal, and Louth. The first game will be away to Louth on Saturday, February 21, at 2 pm.
The team is also listed to compete in the All-Ireland Junior Championship alongside the same three sides. That competition is due to get underway on the weekend of Saturday, May 23/Sunday, May 24.
Peter Dooley and Des Joyce have been announced as joint managers. Both men have been involved in camogie in the county for many years, with Joyce managing Castlebar Mitchels and Dooley having served as chair of the County Board in recent times.
They will be assisted by Jenny Houlihan and Noel Burke.
A 30-player squad has been established and has been in training since the New Year.
Joint manager Des Joyce has expressed his satisfaction with the decision.
“We are delighted to have our county team back competing in national competitions again," he stated.
"The response from the girls in the squad has been really positive. They are delighted to be back, are training really hard and looking forward to the campaign ahead.”
