On a cold, wet and miserable day, Rice College of Westport were dumped out of the Connacht Championship as St Jarlath's of Tuam advanced to the last four where they will face St Geralds in two weeks time.

It was the Westport students who opened the scoring through Fionn O’Cinnseala but Jarlath's hit back when Kian Gilmore blasted to the net with five minutes on the clock. As chances were limited early on, Fiachra O’Cinnseala and Rory Fahey exchanged points while the travelling Jarlath's brigade broke into a series of chants while encouraging their side.

Corofin’s Killian Joyce who finished the afternoon with 2-4 struck to the net two minutes before the break as the Tuam students went in leading 2-3 to 0-4.

As the rain poured down, Rice College appeared with fresh jerseys for the second half however Jarlath's were on a mission as they took control of the tie. Goals from Ben Devaney, Killian Joyce and Cian Hynes sealed the deal for Jarlath's while Ryan Connolly impressed with 0-4 from corner back.

For the Westport based students, they never got going in the second period as their only score of the entire second half came with the last play of the game when Fiachra O’Cinnseala palmed to the net for a major.
