Hollymount Carramore will appeal the result of Friday night's intermediate championship clash with Kilmaine. The match ended in a draw which sent Kilmaine into the quarter-finals and ended Hollymount Carramore's season.
However, a two-point score kicked late in the first half by Kilmaine full-forward Kevin Mullin is central to an appeal being prepared by Hollymount Carramore according to club chairman Tom Connelly.
Speaking to The Mayo News, Connelly explained that the club held no animosity towards Kilmaine or the match officials involved, but a clear error had been made and they would be appealing the result.
"We felt during the game that the decision was wrong and when we viewed video footage afterwards that was clearly confirmed. We were told at the beginning of the year that clear video evidence was required for all such appeals and we feel we certainly have that here."
If the appeal is successful it remains to be seen when a replay might take place, but Mayo GAA would not be drawn on such speculation.
"We're awaiting the referee's report and if anything needs to be discussed after that there will be a meeting of the CCC (Competitions Control Committee), Mayo GAA secretary Ronan Kirrane told The Mayo News.
If the result still stands after that meeting the Hollymount Carramore appeal will then come into play.
