Eastern Gaels defeated Swinford in a crucial clash.
Eastern Gaels staged a remarkable comeback to snatch victory over Swinford in a game of two halves in the Mayo Junior Football Championship.
Swinford dominated the opening period, with Mark Forkan kicking brilliantly and Kevin McDonagh adding frees as the home side surged into an eight-point lead at the break.
But the second half belonged to Gaels.
Senan Guilfoyle’s frees, and Jack Madden’s fisted goal reignited belief, before Evan Godfrey struck a thunderous score to level the tie. The Gaels then hit the front.
Swinford pressed for survival, but Sean McDonagh’s last-gasp two-point free drifted wide. Gaels celebrated wildly, while Swinford were left disappointed as their season now hangs by a thread.
