BREAKING: New Mayo LGFA senior football manager to be announced soon

It is decided, when the appointment of a new Mayo LGFA senior manager will take place

The wait for a new Mayo LGFA senior manager is drawing to a close.

After two years in charge, Liam McHale stepped down last July, after avoiding relegation to the intermediate ranks in a play-off win over Leitrim.

Numerous players left the panel for all sorts of reasons at the start of the 2025 season. The loss of quality and experience showed as Mayo finished bottom of the National Football League.

A month after the manager's job became vacant, the interviews have been concluded, and a decision will be made soon.

The outcome of the interviews - interview scoring and recommendations - will be referred to the management appointment sub-committee of the County Board & the executive for review.

The preferred candidate will be contacted to either accept or decline the position, subject to ratification by the delegates of the County Board at the forthcoming CB meeting this Thursday, August 14.

It shouldn't come as a huge surprise if Diane O'Hora is named. The Mayo LGFA legend revealed two weeks ago that she intends to throw her hat into the ring for the senior manager's job.

O'Hora was only recently out in Croke Park with her All-Ireland-winning team mates from 25 years ago.
