Mayo Intermediate Championship Group 2 Round 3

Ballinrobe 0-10

Kiltane 1-7

In Knockmore

KILTANE and Ballinrobe are through to the knockout stages of the Mayo Intermediate Football Championship after the barony men snatched a draw with the last kick of the game.

Parke’s victory over Kilmaine left them level on points with Kiltane, who have secured second place in the group thanks to an earlier win over the West Mayo men, who are out of the championship despite their win over Kilmaine.

It wasn’t a classic by any means. Ballinrobe kicked elven wides and had plenty of opportunities, but were let down by woeful accuracy and a Kiltane defence that refused to say die.

The Erris men had one point from play in either half, but were fortunate to see Eoin Gilraine turn a high ball into his own net to put Kiltane in front after 17 minutes.

Trailing 0-5 to 1-3, Peter Ford’s Ballinrobe continued to misfire after half-time but were bolstered by the introduction of Evan O’Brien, who kicked two from play.

Two frees from Ewan Duffy and an O’Brien point seemed to be enough for Ballinrobe in the final minutes.

However, Kiltane mustered one final stand in injury time when Ultan Corrigan kicked a free before Ben Donoghue latched onto a breaking ball and struck the leveller at the death.
