Adam Gallagher pictured in action for Mayo
Former Mayo Minor, U-21 and senior footballer Adam Gallagher is set to feature for Mayo Gaels in the upcoming Mayo Senior Football Championship, The Mayo News has learned.
Gallagher, who captained Mayo at Minor and U-21 level, hasn’t featured for his club since emigrating to Australia almost two years ago.
He made his Mayo senior debut in an FBD League game against NUI Galway in 2014 and last played for Mayo in 2018 in a National Football League Division 1 game against Tyrone. In total, he made 14 appearances for the Mayo seniors, scoring 1-20.
Gallagher played Minor for Mayo for two seasons, scoring 1-18 in five appearances and captaining them to an All-Ireland semi-final in 2012.
A player who has lined out at midfield and in the forwards, Gallagher also captained his county at U-21 level in 2014 and scored 1-4 in four championship games in three seasons.
Mayo Gaels will also be bolstered by the return of Jack Fallon, Ruari Keane and Ethan Henry, who have spent the summer playing football in the United States.
All three have played Minor and U-21 football for Mayo while Fallon and Keane featured briefly on Mayo senior panels during recent seasons.
James Jennings, who also spent the summer in America, will also feature for Paul McGarry’s side.
Mayo Gaels’ only championship win in 2023 came at the expense of Balla in a hotly-contested local derby.
Balla and Mayo Gaels will lock horns once more in this year’s championship in a group which also features last year’s county semi-finalists Westport and reigning senior champions Ballina Stephenites.
