MAYO ladies manager Liam McHale has made two changes for the starting team to face Armagh in the upcoming All-Ireland quarter-final.
Westport’s Aoife Staunton and Sinéad Cafferky of Kilmovee Shamrocks have been rewarded for impressive showings from the bench against Kildare by being named to start this weekend’s knock-out clash against the Division 1 champions.
MacHale Rovers attacker Sinéad Walsh drops to the bench, as does experienced Carnacon footballer Fiona McHale.
Mayo lost to Armagh by a point in Ballina when the two sides met in the National Football League earlier this year.
Liam McHale’s charges have been given a major boost by the absence of Armagh star Aimee Mackin, who has been ruled out of Sunday’s game through injury.
Macken was a key figure in Mayo and Armagh’s last championship meeting in 2023 in which Mayo came up short at the BOX-IT Athletic Grounds in Armagh. She also scored 1-7 when they beat Mayo 2-9 2-8 in their last league encounter.
This Sunday, the sides renew acquaintances at the same venue where they last locked horns in the championship.
Throw-in takes place at 5.45pm on Sunday, July 7. The game will be shown live on TG4.
The Mayo team to face Armagh in the quarter-finals of the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship is as follows: Laura Brennan; Saoirse Lally (captain), Nicola O’Malley, Kathryn Sullivan; Éilis Ronayne, Ciara Durkan, Danielle Caldwell; Aoife Geraghty, Erin Murray; Fionnuala McLaughlin, Annie Gough, Sinéad Cafferky; Aoife Staunton, Maria Cannon, Lisa Cafferky
