Ryan O’Donoghue

The Bullet from Belmullet delivers the good yet again.

With seven scores from play, from frees, from a variety of angles, Ryan O’Donoghue continued his unstoppable of run of form against Roscommon.

Unlike previous games, Mayo’s marquee forward had help from Tommy Conroy (0-2), Fergal Boland (0-2), Aidan O’Shea (1-0) and substitute Conor Loftus (0-2).

Swirly Salthill will provide the cauldron for his next test – a far cry from the sunny Hyde.

Aidan O’Shea

The big man showed what he can do when he backs himself when he skipped with surprising ease from the right corner to angle a shot past Conor Carroll in the seventh minute.

He was involved in setting up Paddy Durcan’s opening score and generally made a nuisance of himself.

He set up O’Donoghue for a goal chance with a brilliant before getting into the right place to fist over the rebound himself.

The Breaffy man was subbed off in the 59th minute to a generous applause from the Mayo supporters.

David McBrien

A fine performance from McBrien.

Fresh from a solid showing at midfield in the Bronx, the Ballaghaderreen man gave an excellent display at centre back in the Hyde, where he made big tackles and some even bigger turnovers. He also kept Roscommon’s Enda Smith fairly subdued in the second half.

His position at centre-back appears to be secure, provided he can stay injury-free.
