€26,000 for Mayo projects under Communicating Europe initiative

Four Mayo organisations and Mayo County Council among 113 projects nationwide supported in 2026 scheme
Funding of €26,000 has been allocated to four Mayo-based projects under the Communicating Europe Initiative (CEI) 2026, a national programme aimed at improving public understanding of the European Union at community level.
The announcement was welcomed by Minister of State Alan Dillon TD, who said the projects demonstrate “the real value of EU engagement at community level” and will help bring EU policy themes into schools, community groups and environmental initiatives across the county.
The CEI programme, operated by the Department of Foreign Affairs, supports voluntary organisations, schools, community groups and local authorities in delivering projects that make European issues more accessible and locally relevant.
This year saw a record 140 applications nationwide, with 113 projects approved, ahead of Ireland’s 2026 Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Among the Mayo projects approved is Food Forests Ireland CLG, which will receive €6,000 to support community engagement on sustainability and EU environmental priorities.
Leave No Trace Ireland has been allocated €7,000 for educational outreach promoting responsible outdoor recreation and environmental awareness.
Scoil Chomáin Naofa, Roundfort will receive €3,000 to deliver school-based activities exploring Ireland’s role within the European Union.
Mayo County Council has been awarded €10,000 through the Local Government Management Agency to support participation in the County Pairings Programme, part of preparations for Ireland’s EU Presidency.
Minister Dillon said the range of projects reflects the diversity of EU-related engagement in Mayo.
“From environmental education to school programmes and community partnerships, these initiatives will help strengthen understanding of the EU and highlight the benefits of membership in a very practical way,” he said.
