Minister Alan Dillon says investment will help strengthen and future-proof the key Castlebar cultural hub

The Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar is to receive €21,240 in funding under the Government’s Cultural Capital Scheme, with Minister of State Alan Dillon TD welcoming the investment as an important boost for one of Mayo’s leading cultural institutions.

The funding, awarded through the Cultural Capital Scheme, will support upgrades and improvements to the Castlebar venue, helping to enhance facilities, improve sustainability and strengthen artistic capacity.

Minister Dillon said the Linenhall Arts Centre continues to play a vital role in fostering creativity, artistic expression and community engagement in Castlebar and the wider region.

“The Linenhall Arts Centre is one of Castlebar’s most valued cultural institutions, a place where creativity, community and artistic expression come together,” he said.

“I am delighted that the Linenhall will receive €21,240 to upgrade and enhance its facilities,” he added. “This investment will help the Centre continue its vital work, expand its artistic capacity, and future-proof its operations through more sustainable infrastructure.”

The funding forms part of a wider national allocation of €228,065 shared among eight arts and culture organisations, aimed at strengthening cultural infrastructures.

Minister Dillon said investment in arts infrastructure is essential to ensuring cultural spaces remain accessible and sustainable for local communities.

“Investing in arts and culture facilities ensures the arts are accessible within our communities and supports the continuity of these centres for future generations,” he said.

The Mayo minister also acknowledged the role of Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O’Donovan in delivering support for the arts sector.

According to Minister Dillon, the allocation will help fund essential upgrades at the Linenhall Arts Centre, improving the experience for both artists and visitors while ensuring the venue remains a vibrant and sustainable cultural hub into the future.
