Tributes poured across social media last week, following the sudden passing of Ben McTernan of Lisaniska, Foxford.

Ben passed away unexpectedly in Portugal earlier this month.

In a tribute shared on their social media, Knockmore GAA described Ben as ‘a true gentle giant’: “He represented our club with pride across every age group into senior. As a goalkeeper, he stood tall for his teammates - dependable, brave, and always ready to put his body on the line for the team.

“No matter the team or the season, he brought the same infectious smile, warm laugh, and boundless enthusiasm to every training session and game, whatever the weather. He played the game with joy and carried that same spirit into the dressing room, lifting everyone around him.

A true teammate and friend, he will be fondly remembered not only for his commitment to the club, but for the warmth, kindness, and happiness he shared so freely,” they concluded.

Ben was also fondly remembered by his soccer club, Conn Rangers, who shared that, “he will be fondly remembered by teammates and coaches alike.”

Knockmore Foxford Boxing Club also expressed their sympathies to Ben’s family on his passing: “Ben was one of the first members in the newly formed Knockmore boxing club in 2008. He represented the boxing club with great dignity and respect inside and outside the ring.”

Ben lay in repose at Clarke’s Funeral Home, Foxford, yesterday (Sunday, February 22) with his funeral Mass taking place earlier today (Monday, February 23) at the Church of Christ the King, Knockmore. The funeral proceeded to Ballinahaglish Cemetery.

Ben will be dearly missed by his parents, Michael and Dawn, his sister Katie, his grandmother Jenny, his aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.

May he rest in peace.
