Gardaí appeal for witnesses to serious assault in Ballaghaderreen

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault that occurred in Ballaghaderreen, in the early hours of Thursday, January 1, 2026.

The incident occurred on Barrack Street at around 1am. A male (aged in his 30s) was brought to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, where he remains in a critical condition.

A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed and an incident room has been established in Castlerea Garda Station.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.

Any persons who were in the vicinity of Barrack Street 12.45am and 1.15am on January 1 and who may have video footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
