A MAN who died in a motorcycle accident in Mayo last week will be repatriated to his native Latvia on Friday following a Go Fund Me appeal.

Bruno Smits who was aged in his 40s and resided in Ballinrobe but a native of Liepaja, Latvia died tragically in a motorcycle accident on June 17 while travelling on the Claremorris Road in Ballinrobe.

The Go Fund Me page was set up to support his wife Sandra and young daughter, Kristiana and to date almost €20,000 has been raised to repatriate him back to Latvia.

The inquest into Mr Smits death is to open tomorrow morning in Ballina Courthouse which will determine the cause of death and allow the body to be released for repatriation.

His funeral notice posted on RIP.ie, stated that he will be removed on Friday to Kapsede, Latvia for a funeral service at a later date.

The family also expressed their appreciation for all the support they have received since Mr Smits' death.

“The family would like to express their gratitude for all the help and support they have received at this difficult time,” the notice read.

He is survived by his heartbroken wife, Sandra; daughter, Kristiana; parents, Ilgvars and Valija (Kapsede); brother, Helmuts; sister, Aija Rune; mother-in-law, Vita; brothers-in-law, Henrik and Aleksandrs; sister-in-law, Sarah, relatives, neighbours and large circle of friends.
