Minister Alan Dillon welcomed the commencement of works to modernise St. Gerald’s College
Construction has officially begun on a major multi-million euro extension at St Gerald’s College in Castlebar.
The significant development will see the addition of four new classrooms, along with specialist rooms for construction studies, home economics and textiles. The project also includes substantial upgrades aimed at modernising the school’s facilities and creating additional space for both students and staff.
Mayo Minister Alan Dillon welcomed the commencement of works this week, describing it as a long-awaited milestone for the school community.
“It’s great to see work starting this week on the new multi-million euro extension at St Gerald’s College,” he said. “The project will add four new classrooms, specialist rooms for construction studies, home economics and textiles, and major upgrades to modernise the school and create more space for students and staff.”

Minister Dillon said he had worked closely with the school community and the Department of Education to help progress the development to construction stage.
He also congratulated Principal Shaun Burke and the wider school community on reaching the All-Ireland Colleges semi-final, following their recent victory last Friday, and wished the team the best of luck in their upcoming clash against Tralee.
The extension marks a significant investment in educational infrastructure in Castlebar and is expected to enhance learning opportunities for current and future students at St Gerald’s College.
