Minister Dara Calleary praises volunteers as 2026 show and Welcome Home Week are officially launched
The countdown is underway to the 75th Bonniconlon Agricultural Show, with Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary, officially launching this year’s event.
The milestone show will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 3, while the Bonniconlon Welcome Home Week will run from July 31 to August 9, with a programme of community celebrations.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Calleary praised the dedication of the Bonniconlon Show committee, led by chair John O’Hara, and the many volunteers whose efforts have helped make the show one of the most successful and best-attended agricultural events in the country.
The Minister also highlighted the Government’s ongoing support for agricultural shows, noting that €1 million has been allocated to more than 130 shows nationwide through the Irish Shows Association.
As part of that funding, the Bonniconlon Agricultural Show has received €10,700 this year to assist with running costs.
“As Minister of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht I am delighted to be able to allocate €1 millions to over 130 Agricultural shows right across the country via Irish Shows Association,” he said. “And this year I awarded €10,700 to the Bonniconlon Show to help with their running costs.”
Minister Calleary also acknowledged the continued backing of local sponsors, saying their support is vital to ensuring the long-running event continues to thrive.
The 75th Bonniconlon Agricultural Show is expected to attract large crowds on Monday, August 3, for a day celebrating farming and rural life.
