Connacht rugby star granted permission for construction of padel courts in Mayo

Mayo County Council have granted planning permission to Connaught rugby player Jack Carty and his friend and business partner Fergal Hynes for the construction of padel courts in Ballina.

The pair lodged an application with Mayo County Council in December last year for the construction of four padel courts at an industrial estate in Abbeyquarter, Bunree, Ballina.

The development will involve converting the existing light industrial unit into a recreational facility, which would include the construction of four padel courts.

Additionally, amendments would be made to the existing car park, and bicycle parking would be provided.

Business partners Jack Carty and Fergal Hynes also have a padel court in Galway at Corrib Business Park in July 2025, bringing the first padel court to the West of Ireland.

The decision was granted subject to four conditions.
