Community spirit was once again to the fore in Ballina this week as Ballina Community Clean-Up and the Flow Community Project announced a series of successful and upcoming fundraising initiatives in support of the Ballina Sensory Park.
On Saturday, January 31, a fundraising coffee morning was held at Grub Deli & Grocer from 9.30am to 11.30am. The event drew strong local support, with all proceeds going directly towards the development of the Sensory Park.
Appreciation was expressed to the many volunteer bakers who contributed on the day, as well as to Wispy’s Discount Store for donating balloons, helping to create a welcoming atmosphere. Organisers said the morning was a great success, with attendees enjoying both the social occasion and the opportunity to support a valued local project.
Fundraising efforts are set to continue later this month with the launch of a “Last Man Standing” competition in aid of the Sensory Park. The competition begins on February 21 and will see participants predict the winner in each round of Premier League games, with a €1,000 prize on offer for the eventual winner. Entry costs €20, payable via Revolut or through participating pubs, with all proceeds going towards the park.

The renewed fundraising drive follows the successful opening of phase one of Ballina Sensory Park in early December.
Located on the Sligo Road at Tom Ruane Park, on the banks of the River Moy, the park has already become a much-loved amenity, particularly for neurodivergent children and people with disabilities. Designed with inclusivity at its core, the park offers interactive and calming experiences in a serene natural setting, alongside the nearby ABC Park.
Work is now focused on completing phase two of the project, which will bring further additions and enhancements to the facility. However, increased construction costs since the project began in 2021 mean that additional funding is required. Organisers are appealing to local individuals and businesses to contribute where possible, noting that continued community support will be key to bringing the full vision of Ballina Sensory Park to life.
Further details on fundraising events are available via the Ballina Community Clean-Up Facebook page, and donations can be made online at idonate.ie/BallinaSensoryPark.
