THE newly-crowned Mayo Rose, Clara Gardiner, will be welcomed home to her native Kilfian this evening.
Ms Gardiner will be toasted at a gathering at Kilfian GAA’s clubhouse at 7 pm this evening in honour of her being crowned Mayo Rose. She will now fly the flag for Kilfian, Mayo and Connacht when she competes at the internationally-renowned Rose of Tralee Festival this August.

Speaking exclusively to The Mayo News after being crowned Mayo Rose, Ms Gardiner said she wants to raise awareness for spina bifida, a disease which afflicted her late sister, Jemma, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 16.
Ms Gardiner (24) succeeds Castlebar native Kate Heneghan, who had been tipped among the favourites to win the Rose of Tralee after she was crowned Mayo Rose in 2023.
“We are so excited to see this amazing young lady represent our Community and County at the International Rose of Tralee Competition in Kerry this summer,” read a Facebook post announcing the gathering in honour of Ms Gardiner.
Music, refreshments and a raffle in aid of Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland will take place on the night.
