Mayo GAA club thanks management duo as four-year spell ends
The pair have departed their roles after four seasons at the helm
Another team in Mayo are on the hunt for a new manager after Alan Nolan and Declan Sweeney departed their roles as joint-managers of the Balla team.
The West Mayo club have held their own in recent seasons in the senior championship after winning the intermediate title in 2020, however this season saw the men in maroon relegated to the intermediate championship after suffering losses to Castlebar Mitchels, Garrymore and Ballina Stephenites in the group stages.
In the relegation semi-final, Balla lost out to neighbours Mayo Gaels before Ballaghaderreen left it late in the relegation decider. That narrow loss ensured the men from Nally Park would be competing in the intermediate grade for the 2027 season.
The club posted the following statement on their social media platforms.
“On behalf of everyone in Balla GAA & LGFA we would like to extend a sincere thank you to Alan Nolan and Declan Sweeney for their outstanding work and commitment over the past four seasons as senior team managers.
During their time in charge, Alan and Dec guided the team through a period of transition and helped achieve a fantastic milestone, securing promotion to Division 1 of the Senior League for the first time since the 1990s.
They have helped build a strong foundation for the future and leave behind a great legacy within the team. Their contribution, leadership and commitment to the cause will be remembered and greatly appreciated for years to come. Thanks to you both and your management teams for everything you have given to the senior team over the last four seasons.”
As of now, Ballina, Breaffy, Crossmolina, Garrymore and Knockmore are among the sides in the senior championship in the hunt for a manager.
