Mattie Reidy will be watching the game today 76 years after he attended the final in Croke Park

Mayo and Louth face off for a place in the All-Ireland final at 6pm this evening in Croke Park.

As it has been well documented, Mayo have only won the Sam Maguire cup on three occasions, the second of those coming in 1950 against the same opposition as they face today.

On that day, September 24, 1950, Mayo overcame Louth on a scoreline of 2-5 to 1-6.

A crowd of 76,174 watched the final at GAA headquarters.

Among the crowd that day were Westport men Mattie Reidy, Finbar Gibbons, John Moore and Tommy Sheridan.

Sadly, Finbar, John and Tommy have passed to their eternal reward but 91-year-old Mattie Reidy will be tuning in today with his wife Chrissie at their home in Westport to watch on television the latest clash in the championship between Mayo and Louth.
