Mayo Junior Hurling Final
Moytura 1-15
Claremorris 1-11
In Castlebar
On a cold and blustery afternoon, the men from South Mayo claimed silverware as they overcame Claremorris in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park.
Moytura attacker Brendan Sheridan who came in as a late starter was the star of the show as the accurate hurler managed to lead the way hitting over ten points with seven of those coming from placed ball efforts.
Sheridan and the hard-working Evan Heraty were to the fore for the men in the unique bright colours. For Claremorris, Dylan Burke and Ronan Fallon caught the eye in the opening half as the pair combined for all of their side’s five points in the first half.
As the half time whistle sounded, after enjoying large spells of possession, Moytura went in leading 0-10 to Claremorris’ 0-5.
Just 31 seconds into the fresh half, the leaders stretched the advantage as full-forward Liam Mulally found the net following a Brendan Sheridan shot that dropped short.
With 43 minutes on the clock, Claremorris were dealt further blows when Stephen Lane Spellman was shown a red card while three minutes later, Aidan McGing saw red after the attacker picked up his second yellow card of the game.
As time went on, the 13 men of Claremorris battled well with midfielder Ronan Fallon leading the way. He shot over five second half frees while Moytura’s Evan Heraty was then issued with a red card with five to go.
In injury time, Mark Jennings found the net for the boys in blue but time was against them as the day belonged to Moytura who are managed by Keith Gibbons and current Mayo manager Ray Larkin.
