Historic Mount Falcon Estate hits market for first time in over 20 years

The luxury Mayo manor house hotel, renowned salmon fishery and 95-acre estate are expected to attract international investor interest
One of Mayo’s most prestigious hospitality properties, Mount Falcon Estate, has been placed on the market for the first time in more than two decades.
The landmark 95-acre estate near Ballina is being offered for sale by private treaty through CBRE Hotels on behalf of the Maloney family. The property firm describes it as one of the most significant hospitality investment opportunities to emerge in the West of Ireland in recent years.
Located seven kilometres south of Ballina in the heart of the Moy Valley, the estate includes a fully operational four-star deluxe manor house hotel, luxury lodges, conference and leisure facilities, and one of Ireland’s most renowned private salmon fisheries.
Originally designed in 1872 by architect James Franklin Fuller - whose work includes Ashford Castle, Kylemore Abbey and Farmleigh House - Mount Falcon was completed in 1876 as a Victorian Gothic manor. Following a three-year restoration by its current owners beginning in 2002, it reopened as a luxury country house hotel in 2006.
The estate features 32 bedrooms in the historic manor house, including suites and deluxe rooms retaining many original period features, alongside 45 luxury lodges spread across woodland, courtyard and lakeside settings. Guests also have access to an award-winning restaurant, spa, swimming pool, conference facilities and extensive outdoor activities.
A key attraction of the estate is its 3.2-kilometre double-bank salmon fishery on the River Moy. The fishery, divided into ten beats and managed by dedicated staff, is reserved exclusively for hotel guests.
Mount Falcon also benefits from its location along the Wild Atlantic Way and close proximity to some of Ireland’s best-known championship golf courses, including Enniscrone, Carne, Rosses Point and Strandhill.
Over the years, the estate has welcomed an array of high-profile guests, including actors Vivien Leigh, Peter Sellers, Emily Blunt, Jon Hamm and Jamie Dornan, golfers Tiger Woods and Nick Faldo, comedian Bill Murray, and former US President Joe Biden.
Susan Joyce, Director of CBRE Hotels Ireland, described Mount Falcon as an exceptionally rare opportunity.
“In the Irish hospitality investment market, truly complete estate assets of the calibre of Mount Falcon are extraordinarily rare,” she said. “It offers a combination of heritage, natural beauty and diversified revenue streams.”
The estate also offers room for future expansion, including the potential for additional guest accommodation, further lodges and expanded banqueting facilities, subject to planning permission.
No guide price has been disclosed for the sale.
