Global pharma company with Mayo site awarded Great Place to Work

Biopharmaceutical company, AbbVie, has been named as one of Ireland’s best places to work at the 2026 Great Place to Work Awards. 

AbbVie employs over 1,300 people at its manufacturing campus in Westport, Mayo.

The company’s recognition marks the 13th consecutive year it has been featured among Ireland’s top employers. AbbVie remains the highest placed company in the biopharmaceutical/ pharmaceutical industry across all categories.

Great Place to Work Institute assesses the policies and practices in place in organisations under nine key areas, including employee development, hiring practices, employee achievement recognition, and communication. 

Great Place to Work has also recently recognised AbbVie as a Best Workplace for Women for the eighth consecutive year. 

Ben Schroeder, Site Head of AbbVie Westport, expressed what a tremendous honour the award was for AbbVie Ireland. “We are proud to be part of this achievement at our Westport site, where we employ more than 1,400 people, many of whom are from the local community. We are proud of this recognition and the work we do every day for patients and customers around the world.”

Jim Flynn, CEO of Great Place to Work Ireland, expressed his delight at awarding AbbVie as a Best Workplace for Ireland 2026.
