Mayo town elects youngest ever Chair of Tidy Towns association

Westport Tidy Towns elects Patrick Ryder as new Chair, taking over from Eithne Larkin.

Patrick ryder was elected at a meeting last night (Tuesday, February 17) as Chair of Westport Tidy Towns, replacing Eithne Larkin. He becomes the youngest chair in the group’s history, surpassing previous record-holder Peter Flynn, and taking over from Eithne Larkin.

In a statement, the group said it was “absolutely delighted” with the appointment, describing it as a proud and exciting milestone for the town. Members said Patrick brings “fresh ideas, new energy and a passion for keeping Westport as a leading Tidy Towns organisation”.

The voluntary group has long been central to community life in Westport, coordinating environmental initiatives, enhancement projects and entries to the national Tidy Towns competition.

Patrick will be supported in the role by vice-chairperson Paul Moody. The organisation has called on the wider community to lend its backing as he takes on what it described as a “huge role” in the year ahead.

Westport Tidy Towns said the appointment reflects the town’s strong community spirit and forward-thinking approach as it continues its work to maintain and enhance the area.
