A car has been seized by Mayo Gardaí after it was detected travelling 75 kilometres per hour over the speed limit.

The offence, which occurred over the Bank Holiday Weekend, saw a motorist clocked travelling at 175 km/h on the N5.

The speed limit on the route, which connects Westport, Castlebar, and Charlestown, is 100 km/h.

The car was subsequently seized by Gardaí.
