Over 40 players from six clubs competed in ground breaking tournament aimed at reviving women's squash in Connacht

Women’s squash makes comeback with historic blitz in West Mayo

A milestone event for women's squash in Connacht took place in Westport Squash Club on Sunday, as 40 players from across the province gathered for the first women's Blitz in years.


The tournament brought together competitors from across Mayo, Westport, Loughrea, Claremorris, Ballina, Sligo, and county Galway in what organisers hope will mark the revival of women's squash following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Galway were the winning team overall with a haul of 64 points, just ahead of Claremorris on 60. Loughrea just pipped Sligo for third spot as they managed to win 53 points, three points of women from The Yeats County. Ballina and Westport both finsihed on 48 points.

Division 1:

1, Nina Wallace (Claremorris);

2, Elaine Fox (Ballina).

Division 2:

1, Johanne Duffy (Westport)

2 Therese Connolly (Claremorris).

Division 3:

1, Róisín Murphy (Galway);

2, Caroline Hughes (Claremorris).

Division 4:

1, Lucy Lynch (Galway);

2, Clare Hoban (Westport).

Division 5:

1, Nicola Gough (Ballina);

2, Lyndsey Ward (Loughrea).
