The checklist for a growing number of Irish holidaymakers now includes finding a dog friendly hotel or B&B.
Recognising the new trend, The Irish Times has compiled a nine strong shortlist of dog friendly holiday spots around Ireland.
The Wyatt Hotel in Westport is listed alongside Cashel Palace, Castlemartyr Resort and Muckross Park Hotel in Co Kerry as a top spot for dog lovers looking to go on holiday in Ireland.
The Irish Times review describes Westport as “arguably Ireland’s prettiest town.”
Walks in Westport House, Brackloon Woods and the Great Western Greenway provide plenty of options for dogs to get a good stretch of their legs.

The Irish Times notes that The Wyatt Hotel offers dog-friendly bedrooms in a secluded area of the property with exterior access and exercise opportunities in a lovely green area.
While dogs are not allowed in the main public areas, guests can enjoy breakfast with their pets in a specially designated area of the hotel and dine in Cobblers Bar for dinner.
