Gena Heraty has been helping the children of Haiti for over 30 years.
Tánaiste Simon Harris spoke with Gena Heraty on Wednesday night and said he is "relieved and inspired after my conversation with her."
The news of her release was greeted with delight all across Mayo after her family confirmed that she had been released on Friday evening.
The Liscarney native was abducted along with seven others and a child from an orphanage in Kenscoff in Haiti on August 3.

Minister Harris also commented that "Gena’s courage and commitment are boundless. She is someone of extraordinary bravery, unwavering commitment to peace, and decades of dedication to Haiti’s most vulnerable.
"She asked me to tell people to pray for Haiti and for peace.
"I am so glad that brighter days lie ahead for her and her family."
