Mayo has new All-Ireland champions once more, as a pair of Newport handballers secured national glory in the Under-15 Softball Doubles All-Ireland Championship over the weekend.

Seán Nevin and Feidhlim Guilfoyle, both from Newport, combined in the Green and Red over the course of what was a whirlwind 24 hours for the duo. Firstly, it was a trip to Tyrone, where they ended up in Loughmacrory on Sunday for a semi-final win.

The very next day, Nevin and Guilfoyle found themselves in Castlebridge, County Wexford, where they put in a fine performance to secure Celtic Cross glory.

Across the weekend, the pair racked up 1,000 kilometres in their pursuit of national honours. On Sunday evening, they travelled home to Newport beaming with pride, and can head back to school after the Summer break as All-Ireland Champions.
