Mayo County Council are seeking tenders for link road to Westport Industrial Park
MAYO County Council have advertised tenders for the construction of a road linking the Westport Industrial Estate and the Golf Course Road.
The link road which will be approximately 250 metres long will be incorporated into the extension of the existing industrial estate which will consist of 12 additional serviced industrial sites.
The existing entrance into the Westport Industrial Estate is via the N59 Newport Road and local councillors had called for the link road with the Golf Course Road to be included in the plans for the industrial estates extension.
Mayo County Council advertised tenders for the project at the end of July seeking the services of a competent contractor to carry out the construction of a road on the proposed Phase 3 of Westport Industrial Estate. The tender stated that the works will include road construction works connecting to existing roadway, earthworks, retaining walls, drainage works, watermain works, foul sewer works, ducting works and lighting works.

The cost of the project is estimated to be in the region of €2.5 million and take six months to complete and will also involve the demolition of an existing farm shed and yard. The deadline for the receipt of tenders is August 22, 2025.
The development of a road linking the Golf Course Road near the old Berry's printing factory and the Westport Industrial estate was agreed in order to allay traffic concerns along the Golf Course Road following the development of 50 new houses. Councillors had argued that the link road will alienate the traffic congestion on the Golf Course Road and provide quicker access for people looking to gain access onto the new N59/N5 road.
The extension of the industrial estate and the link road was agreed by local councillors in early 2024 but concern was expressed last December regarding the slow process in advancing the project.
At the Westport/Belmullet Municipal District monthly meeting last December, council officials reassured councillors that the project was advancing and it had been hoped the tenders would be advertised with work to commence in mid 2025.
