Mayo Mountain Rescue were called into action yesterday (Sunday, June 29) when a man was hospitalised after he got into difficulty and became unwell on the summit of Croagh Patrick.
During the ascent to the summit of the mountain, the man realised that he was unwell and wouldn’t be able to safely descend, and called first responders for help.

First responders to the scene located the individual and provided emergency care. Following contact with the coastguard, Rescue 115 were dispatched as assistance was provided by members of the Mayo Mountain Rescue stretcher team.
Following essential aid, the man was airlifted to Mayo University Hospital to receive treatment.
In a statement on social media, Mayo Mountain Rescue extended thanks to the coastguard services for their ‘invaluable support’ and wished the man a speedy recovery.
