Gardaí in Mayo stopped a motorist travelling at 193 km per hour

A MOTORIST was stopped while speeding along the N5 in Mayo after the car was clocked travelling at 193km per hour.

The incident took place along the new N5 dual carriageway near Westport on Thursday night, May 15 when an unmarked patrol car detected a Volkswagen Passatt travelling at 193km per hour in a 100km per hour zone. The motorist was stopped by gardaí outside Westport and will be charged and is expected to appear before a court in the near future.

Since the new 20km N5 dual carriageway from Westport to Turlough opened in 2023, Gardaí have been advising motorists that the speed limit remains at 100km per hour and not to exceed the limit.
