The town of Westport is in shock this afternoon after the sudden passing of a young Transition Year student. Chris Gavin (16), who was a student at Rice College in Westport and also a minor footballer with Westport GAA Club, passed away in Mayo University Hospital over night.

Chris fell ill on Thursday evening last and was taken to Mayo University Hospital, where he was being treated. However, he has since sadly passed away. Chris was previously a student at Scoil Phádraig in Westport.

Chris is survived by his parents, Michael and Karen, his twin brother Michael, and his sisters Cathy and Emma, extended family and a wide circle of friends. No funeral arrangements are available at this time.
