A happy young Mayo couple are celebrating a new arrival.

Myrtle is a four year old donkey lady and together with three year old Biscuit, they have just welcomed their first child.

Baby boy Archie was born yesterday. The McGreal Farm in Owenwee is home to the happy family and Brittany McGreal says about the cute little donkey boy and the parents:

"The animals are a pure joy. Myrtle's gestation period was a full year so this was a long time coming. This is our first donkey foal on our farm and we are so excited! Archie is so big already he’s a bit shy but very curious and walking so strong. He’s a big ball of fluff."

We will see which parent Archie takes after. His Mum Myrtle has a strong and sassy personality, whereas father Biscuit is gentle and shy. So far Archie seems more like the dad and his markings match the dad.

The donkey couple are a bonded pair. They came from the same farm and moved to the McGreals last year. "My husband surprised me when them for my birthday," says Brittany, speaking to The Mayo News.
