History was made on Friday evening, as a Mayo woman was selected as the first ever person chosen as a ‘Connacht Mary’ for the Mary from Dungloe festival.
Caragh Ryan, who hails from Kilmeena, was selected to represent the province in the Donegal pageant.

The festival, coming into its 58th year, centres around a pageant in which representatives from around the country and beyond compete for the title of ‘Mary from Dungloe’. The event will take place from July 26 to August 4 in the town of Dungloe.
During the selection process in Gracie’s Bar, Sligo, Ms Ryan suitably impressed the selectors ahead of the other competitors to earn the title of Connacht Mary. Caragh is a SNA teacher and has also undertaken a serious of fundraisers for charity in her locality over the last number of years.
The finals of the event will be held on Sunday, August 3, live on TG4, and will be presented by Donegal native and Irish music icon, Daniel O’Donnell.
