Mayo played host to another well-known celebrity guest this month, as British television presenter Timmy Mallett was sighted in Ballina.

Mr Mallett is renowned for his work on CITV and BBC as a children’s presenter, and has also appeared on the hit show ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!’

The famed presenter was cycling through Ballina as part of his solo Wild Atlantic Way tour. During his time in North Mayo, he visited the banks of the River Moy for a spot of salmon fishing and stayed in the Great National Hotel, Ballina, to rest and recuperate on this leg of his journey along Ireland’s West Coast.

Mayo North Tourism’s manager, Mairéad Melody Carr, expressed her ‘pleasure’ at Mr Mallett’s fleeting visit.

“It was a pleasure to welcome Timmy to Ballina,” she stated. “His passion for art, travel, and community really resonates with what Mayo North Tourism stands for—authentic experiences, local heritage, and the beauty of the everyday.”

Dara Calleary, the Minister of State, echoed these sentiments in a post on Facebook.

“My home village at the The Quay, Ballina looking its beautiful best as Ballina and Mayo North welcome TV personality Timmy Mallett to Ballina and North Mayo,” he wrote.

“Welcome Timmy, enjoy our spectacular scenery and renowned hospitality.”

Alongside his TV stardom, Timmy Mallett was also part of the group Bombalurina, who released the 1990 UK Number One hit Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini.
