The Galway native has taken plenty of inspiration from Mayo in his music. His recent album, The Starlight Ballroom’, takes inspiration from the iconic venue that was the beating heart of Westport nightlife throughout the 60s and 70s.
Mr Conlon is not the only man with a wealth of experience taking to the stage. Jimmy Higgins has been playing the trumpet since 1956 and will be joined by his son, Jimmy Higgins Junior, who has worked with the likes of Christy Moore.
Guitarist Miceal O’Connor, who has performed alongside artists such as Sharon Shannon, rounds off a fantastic ensemble.
No shortage of effort has been spared in the recording of the new album. ‘The Starlight Ballroom’ was produced in Los Angeles by Grammy Award winner David Garza.
Now, with Ultan taking to the stage only a 15-minute drive from the site of the famed venue from which he took so much inspiration, he’ll be hoping to recreate even a portion of the magic that took place within its walls.
