Nationally, it was the coldest January since 2021, according to the average recorded temperatures

January saw Mayo as one of coldest and wettest counties in Ireland

Weather data for the month of January 2026 shows that Mayo experienced one of the lowest average temperatures nationally with the county experiencing lots of rainfall across the month.

According to statistics from Met Éireann, Newport in Mayo had 30 days of rain in January with only one day in the entire month avoiding rainfall.

Mean temperatures for the month were recorded as 3.9 °C at Knock Airport, Co Mayo which was 0.4 °C below the national average.
