Brewing up a storm! Arctic beast set to return to Ireland as shown on new maps

After a mild and balmy exit from last week's subzero temperatures, it appears Arctic beast is set to return to Ireland according to weather app Ventusky.

The most recent cold snap saw temperatures in Ireland drop as low as -7.6°C in Athenry, Co. Galway on Wednesday January 8, 2025. However, within, a balmy 15°C was recorded at Finner Camp, Co. Donegal.

Changing temperatures are here to stay for the time being as Met Éireann predicts milder conditions for the next ten days but there is potential for snow and subzero temperatures to return towards the end of next week.

Many cities and towns across the country including Dublin, Waterford and Cork are currently expected to bear the brunt for much of the potential snowfall on Saturday, January 25 as currently mild temperatures could return to a drop to -6°C in some parts of the country.

Irish weather expert Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather posted to X on January 12 about the arrival of the milder conditions but did highlight the potential for a "stormy period" towards the end of the month.

He said: "After a cold spell we will always be looking for the next one, or headline writers will be.

"Well no sign of any significant cold in next 10 days as this forecast of upper air temps shows. Some signals towards a possibly stormy period around 25th but uncertain this far out,"

That being said, Met Éireann's outlook for the rest of this week remains positive as the state forecaster said while rain is forecast for this weekend, mild temperatures are here to stay for the time being.
