East Mayo pays warm tributes to Eileen Roughneen

Eileen Roughneen, Main Street, Kiltimagh, who died peacefully at her home, was a cherished member of the Kiltimagh community over many decades. She was formerly Gallagher from Keenagh, Crossmolina.

She was blessed with a warm and serene disposition that endeared her to all and she excelled at her chosen profession of hairdressing all through the years. She had such a bond with her loyal clientele and friendship that endures a lifetime. Glowing tributes have been paid to Eileen (pictured) over the last few days.

Former Knockmore and Mayo footballer and retired Garda, Eddie McHale, said the passing of Eileen brought down the curtain on the great life of a woman who epitomised everything that was good: “Many a good hour I spent in her company, and when I left I felt good, and you would have a feeling that everything in the world was good. “Eileen always had time for personal interaction and friendship. She loved meeting people and her good humour and personality reflected the fact that anyone that encountered Eileen always felt that she was a personal friend.”

Eileen Flynn, Kiltimagh, recalls her many visits to Eileen’s in former times: “I have fond memories of having our hair cut as kids, and our grandmother, Annie B Walsh, had her hair done every week. They shared so many laughs. Eileen and I did some art classes together. Eileen was so talented, and gracious.”

Tony and Bridie Marren, Sligo, shared memories of a good friend: “Eileen was so engaging, a beautiful lady full of personality, warmth and style. It was always a pleasure to meet her on her visits to Mary and Christy’s home in Carraroe. She will be dearly missed by all of us.”

Eileen, who was predeceased by her husband Mick and her precious child Linda, will be forever missed and fondly remembered by her family, Mary, Michael and Johanna, her sons-in-law, Christy and Timmy and daughter-in-law Colleen, her grandchildren Michael, Paul, Christopher, James, Feidhlim, Ruth and Grace and her great-grandchildren Rhys, Mia, Jack, Robbie, Thady and Oliver, relatives, neighbours and her many friends.

Eileen's requim mass took place on Sunday December 14 in the Church of the Holy Family Kiltimagh while she was laid to rest in Kilkunure cemetery afterwards.
