Run in memory of Mayo detective to take place in Charlestown in May

The Colm Horkan Run will take place in Charlestown and includes a half marathon, 10k and 5k

Colm Horkan Run entries now open for event in Charlestown

Members of Charlestown Sarsfields GAA Club and East Mayo AC at the launch of the 2024 Colm Horkan Memorial Run in Charlestown.

A HALF Marathon and 10k run in memory of a Mayo Garda who was killed while on duty will take place in Charlestown on May 18.

The fifth Colm Horkan Run which includes a Half Marathon, 10k, 5k and Virtual run will take place in Charlestown on Sunday, May 18.

The run in memory of Colm Horkan, a detective with An Garda Síochána and Charlestown native who was killed while on duty in Castlerea, Co Roscommon on July 17, 2020, is being organised by East Mayo Athletic Club and Special Olympics Club.

This year the proceeds of the run will go towards the club's planned six-lane floodlit 200m track development and astro commencing this year. The main sponsor for this year's Colm Horkan Run is Hegarty’s Centra, Bellaghy.

All tickets for the run include one free t-shirt while family tickets come with the opportunity to buy a discounted second t-shirt, and all ticket holders can buy an extra t-shirt for €20. Post event refreshments will be available in the CBD Complex in Charlestown.

The route for the run which has been described as fast and flat will take around the Charlestown and east Mayo hinterland. TheHalf Marathon will begin at 9am while the 5k will begin at 9.15am followed by the 10k at 9.30am.
