Detective Garda Colm Horkan was originally from the area
A GAA pitch in Mayo, named after Detective Garda Colm Horkan, has been opened by the Taoiseach.
The pitch at Charlestown Sarsfields GAA Club was named after the detective, originally from the area, who was killed while on duty in Roscommon in 2020.
Taoiseach Simon Harris called it an honour to attend the ribbon cutting opening ceremony for the new pitch and community walkways at the Mayo GAA Club, which Detective Garda Horkan was an active member of.
“A day of community celebration and pride and a day of grief at the loss of Det Garda Horkan in the line of duty,” the Taoiseach wrote on X.
He added: “A fitting tribute to him and his incredible service and impact.”
Justice Minister Helen McEntee and Garda Commissioner Drew Harris also attended the weekend’s opening.
