As the alarm clocks went off early on Saturday morning, many sporting fans around the area of Kilmaine and the greater Mayo area rose to tune into the AFL Grand Final.

The Final taking place in the stunning Melbourne Cricket Ground welcomed 100,000 keen fans to witness a game full of action, leaving many in shock as the full time whistle sounded.

Former Mayo star and current Geelong player Oisin Mullin started the clash as an interchange player but entered the heat of the battle early on in the first quarter. The Kilmaine native actually got on the scoresheet as he recorded his second ever goal when he booted over for the six-pointer.

However, the outcome wasn't the one Mullin and co wanted. Entering the game, Geelong were hot favourites to overcome the Brisbane Lions but the Grand Final took plenty of twists throughout.

While Mullin and his Geelong teammates started brightly, they held a 15-12 advantage at the end of the first quarter. However the Brisbane side came into the clash and as the second quarter ended, the sides were level 36 points a piece.

Appearing to make hay with numerous goals, the Lions took advantage and seemed to turn it on as the scoreboard read 63-44 at the end of the third quarter.

Mullin and the 2022 Champions needed a massive final quarter in order to turn it around but their opponents were on fire kicking goal after goal. In impressive fashion, many fans were left shocked with the manner in which Brisbane played as they ran out comfortable winners in the end. As the full time whistle sounded, the scoreboard read Brisbane Lions 122, Geelong 75.

It wasn't to be for Oisin Mullin as he was setting out to be the first AFL winner from Mayo, but it’s worth noting that the two time Young Footballer of The Year has made huge strides this season while kicking two goals in recent times. The 25 year old is becoming a big player at the Geelong club.
