MAYO SFC ROUND 2
GROUP 3
Knockmore 0-13
Claremorris 0-8
KNOCKMORE
Seven points from full-forward Caolan Hopkins helped Knockmore get their championship campaign back on track on Saturday evening when they found their way past a determined Claremorris outfit.
The accuracy of Hopkins was a huge aspect in the home side's win but the fuel driving Knockmore to victory came from their all-round teamwork which limited time and space for the opposition. Claremorris found it hard to find any chink of light in front of the Knockmore posts and eventually fell away in the final quarter.
The guests started the brighter and were 0-4 to 0-2 clear after 20 minutes but Knockmore found their rhythm before the break and the home side kicked three points to lead by one at the change of ends.
The third quarter was well contested and a well-taken point from Claremorris sub James Shaughnessy had the sides level at 0-8 apiece midway through the second half but the boys in blue would not score again.
Instead, it was Knockmore who pulled away with Kevin McLoughlin pulling the strings and Hopkins kicking the points to get Knockmore back in the race for Paddy Moclair after their opening-day defeat in Ballaghaderreen.
A full match report will be carried in Tuesday's Mayo News.
